Barcode Verification

Barcode Verifiers are technical measuring devices to determine if a barcode meets the required dimensional and reflectance characteristics as per industry standards. It will determine the flaws within the barcode to help users fix the problem. A verifier determines if any scanner will be able to read the barcode first time every time.  Most of the problems with scanning a barcode are not a scanner error, but a barcode printing error.  Ensuring all your barcodes scan properly is critical to achieving the return on investment of an overall barcode system.

Barcode verifiers come in stand-alone handheld devices or units built into thermal transfer printers.  They are certified and calibrated to grade barcodes based on ANSI or ISO/IEC grading systems.  They provide a percent and letter grade in each category to determine the exact quality of each barcode and compare to a preset requirement.  A printed report of the grade is available for record keeping or providing proof to customers.

Product Validation

Product Validation is an automation system to ensure the right barcode or other specifications are correct on the product. This can be in a labeling line to ensure that a scannable label was properly place on each product. In areas where product type changes on a manufacturing line, it can determine if a barcode label, lot numbers, or other criteria are present and correct. In addition, the data gathered is available for uploading and recording production volume per line or product type.

Product validation is often in a moving line, like a conveyor. It involves a fixed mount barcode scanner, RFID reader, Machine Vision Camera, or some other technology. It requires software processing to compare anticipated results with actual. There is usually a mechanism to either stop or halt the line when an error occurs, often involving a PLC.
